A
little about me
If you hear me talk you'll know immediately
that I was born in Argentina, in the city of Bahia Blanca, in
1945, to be precise. It is near a port in the Province of Buenos
Aires, about 500 miles south of the capital, also called Buenos
Aires.
My accent gets complicated by the fact
that I lived for more than six years in Israel. I studied there
physical education, at the Wingate Institute, psychology at the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and hebrew at Kibbutz Maale Hachamisha,
where I resided.
I served in the Israel Defense Forces from
1966 to 1969, mostly as a sergeant instructor.
I arrived in the US in 1970 and I obtained
a BA in psychology at The Colorado College in Colorado Springs
and an MBA in Marketing and Finance at DePaul University in Chicago.
I have worked in the packaging industry
for Consolidated packaging, St. Regis Paper, and Western Kraft.
I started Northbrook Computers, a computer dealership in 1980
and sold it in 1994. I am basically retired now.
I am married to Sandy, a village (Northbrook)
and college (Knox) trustee. I have three children: Alex, a Lieutenant
in the US Army in Germany, Josh, a senior at Tulane University
in New Orleans, and Daniela a freshman (freshwoman?) at Colorado
State University in Fort Collins.

Ham
radio
My call sign is WI9R. I got my first ticket
in 1985 and I currently hold an Amateur Extra Class License.
My previous calls were KA9TKX, KE9JA, and N9FKY.
I like DX and I've got confirmed contacts
with more than 280 countries. My main rig is a Kenwood 940 and
my spare rig is an Icom 735. I have a TenTec Titan linear feeding
a High Gain TH7DX triband beam up 56 feet (about 17 meters).
I also operate VHF and UHF mobile. One
of these days I will put on the air my packet station. That will
happen when I stop fooling around with web pages!

Stamps
When I was a child I enjoyed collecting
stamps. I got away from that but returned to it a few years back.
I started assembling a collection that pairs two of my hobbies.
I collect amateur related stamps form all over the world.
There are not many stamps specifically
designed to honor amateur radio. A few honor Marconi or Morse,
and some others honor famous amateur radio operators like King
Hussein of Jordan or King Juan Carlos of Spain.

Other
Interests
Since I retired from active business I
have involved myself with teaching entrepreneurship. I have done
this at DePaul University (The Graduate School of Business),
in Panevezys, Lithuania (The Management Training Center sponsored
by the Kaunas University of Technology and the US Agency for
International Development), and The Colorado College (The Department
of Economics and Business).
I am also a Rotarian and member of the
Northbrook Early Risers Rotary Club, and a member of the Northbrook
Civic Foundation.
I enjoy photography, trap, skeet, and target
shooting, and wood working, although I don't have much time to
do all these with any kind of consistency.
I also like to scuba and ride horses (not
at the same time!)
