Each of these is a Salvation Army unit at which SATERN has installed one or more VHF antenna(s) with feedlines and jumper cables, so that an operator can hook up a 2 meter handheld and provide reliable communication to all other Salvation Army units in the area (a couple through relays) without relying on telephone, cell phone, or repeaters. Our philosophy has been to achieve reliable operation using simplex with 5 watts or less. Anything more than that is frosting on the cake. |
