Telemetry for Quantar Radios
Voice Alarm Module for Motorola Quantar Radio
DTMF Alarm Module for Motorola Quantar Radio
In our conversion from Analog to Digital P25 at Texas DPS, we lost some
telemetry ability. The basic thing we used the telemetry for was simple
alarms, such as Generator On/Generator Off, Tower lights On/Tower
lights Off and so on. The decision was made to use a Zetron
device to give us voice alarms. The message when the alarm was
triggered was repeated several times and it was up to the dispatch
operators to make note of and log the alarms.
After looking at the device and what it did, I took it upon myself to
do this simple function in a PIC based device. For about $50.00 I was
doing what the Zetron was doing for $1100. We were not using all of the
Zetrons capability but a very small part of it.
It was later asked if I could do the same thing but generate DTMF tones
per alarm. The idea was we would add a DTMF decoder to the dispatch
console electronics and for a tone sequence in, it would generate an
alarm on the console screen.
I did this as well but it was never implemented because the decoder
modules for the Motorola Console Electronics Bank (CEB) could not be
found.
The application here is very narrow but I decided to post these on my
website as food for thought. Because I did this as a project that I was
sure would be manafactured, the drawings I made were very through. I am
adding the drawing package as a PDF file and not including the software
as I do have working prototypes in the field.
Write me if intrested in these devices.
