WC4RAV.......
Not your average group of Amateur radio
operators
WC4RAV is
a not-for- profit organization composed primarily of licensed Amateur
Radio operators formed to serve local communities with wireless
communications consultation, and interoperability solutions, as well as
training and managing a volunteer force of citizens who posses a desire to
give back to their communities using a variety of skills and talents from
various professions.
WC4RAV is
also a wireless communications think tank .By nature of the Amateur Radio
Service, radio amateurs are more inclined to think of
“outside of the box” finding cost-effective solutions to
wireless communications issues facing government, law enforcement and
non-profit public service groups encounter. Radio amateurs have a passion
for the art and science behind wireless communications and the use of
radio is not limited to an on the job resource to which little
understanding as to how or why it works. Many of the leading wireless
communications technologies widely used in modern life were developed by
radio amateurs who honed their skills in the Amateur Radio Service. These
include the cellular radio concept, mobile data transmission, automatic
vehicle location and direct based satellite communications.
.
Due to the
wide and diverse radio spectrum and modes afforded to the amateur radio
services, radio amateurs are the most interoperable communicators governed
by the FCC. This has proven
an invaluable asset to public safety officials because radio amateur
networks and systems are rapidly deployable and require less time to setup
than commercial or
governmental systems and also cost much less and rely on accepted
standards unlike the proprietary systems used by many governments, public
safety and public wireless networks.
WC4RAV
uses volunteers as “first responders” to augment EMS personnel at many
civic events. While many of our volunteers have advanced EMS training
most are certified at the BLS level.Volunteers primarily serve as spotters
for professional rescuers locating, assessing and communicating their
findings to more qualified EMS personnel though our dispatch. The use of such spotters can
make for a more efficient and informed EMS response. |
