I grew up in Port Angeles, WA and was first licensed as WB7RHT in 1977. I operated as IT9/WB7RHT in Catania, Italy (on Sicily's east coast) from 1980/81 and 1985/88 and as MØBKC in Littleport, England (near Cambridge) from 1997/98. In 2005, after 28 years of using WB7RHT, I decided to change my call. After anguishing for about three months, I applied for and received N7TY, a very easy call to send in CW. Although I am interested in all areas of Amateur Radio, my favorite activity is to chase DX on CW. I will,
however, chase it on other modes if I see a good spot! I am also an accredited W5YI and ARRL Volunteer Examiner and the Trustee and Founder of the Imperial Valley Amateur Radio Club (KC7EQW).
I retired from the U.S. Navy in 1997 as an AMSC(AW/NAC). During my career I amassed over 4100 flight hours as a Flight Mechanic and Loadmaster on the
C-2A Greyhound, C-130 Hercules, and UC-12M Huron aircraft. In 1996 I earned my Commercial Pilot's certificate with Multi-Engine, Single-Engine, and Instrument ratings, although I am not active at present. I am currently employed by L-3 Vertex Aerospace as Site Supervisor at the Imperial County Airport where we maintain Customs and Border Protection support aircraft. I am a FAA certified A&P/IA Mechanic and also hold a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) with Radar Endorsement.
