Betty McCorkle and June O'Brien held tenure in succession, and then Helen took the reins in May of 1957. Building the new post offlce was the summer project of the McCleary family. Ralph, Helen, and her three boys Michael, Wayne and Lloyd Chaffey graded, installed plumbing, erected the 20 x 28 foot building. Even though the building is family-owned it took signatures of Helendale mail delivery patrons before the change to new quarters could be affected. The post office handles the mail of 18 box holders, 12 general delivery and an even 100 rural route box holders. The post office has an interesting history as evidenced by the partial filling in of data supplied by Cora (Decrow)Jones of Burbank and Ruth Horning, former VictorValley resident now residing in San Bernardino, at the request of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Orebaugh the letters in part: October 27, 1960 Notes for Dave V. He also was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local No. 12 for more than 44 years. He enjoyed gardening in addition to fishing. Mr. Holt, 77, died March 24 at Feather RiverHospital. He moved to Paradise in 1979 from SouthernCalifornia. Riverside was his birthplace. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Helen; two daughters, Annette Holt and Lynette Holt; four sons, Ronald, Donald and two named David; three stepsons, Michael Chaffey, Wayne Chaffey and Lloyd Chaffey; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A private service will be held. Neptune Society of Northern California, Chico branch, is handling the arrangements. His cremated remains will be scattered at sea off the coast of Marin County. Notes for Lloyd Stuart Chaffey: Lloyd Stuart Chaffey prefered to use his middle name "Stu" Graduated from Whittier High School, California in 1939. Stu was shot on 18 August 1945. He died five days later.
