One book is "Basic ESD and I/O Design" by Sanjay Dabral, Timothy J. Maloney

Subject: [SI-LIST] : I/O Design book?

Ever since I subscribed to the SI-List a year or so ago,
I've seen quite a few postings regarding books (and other
publications) on signal integrity. Nearly all of these
books have concentrated on transmission lines, board
design, EMC, on-chip VLSI issues, and such.

However, I spend a significant portion of my time designing,
tuning, modifying, etc. various forms of input/output cells.
I learned the basics of CMOS I/O design a while back, but
I have much to learn, and I've been trying to find a dedicated,
comprehensive study on I/O cell design.

What I'd like to see included is:

        * I/O families (rough specs and basic designs)
                * full swing CMOS
                * TTL
                * ECL/PECL
                * CML
                * LVDS
                * HSTL
                * single ended and differential versions
                * FET and bipoloar implementations
                * others...
        * ESD
        * controlled (or lack there of) output impedance
        * on-chip termination (for receivers)
        * input, output, bidirectional, high-Z, etc
        * voltage level translators (e.g., 3.3V I/O to 2.5 V core)
        * edge rate control
        * ????

Is there such a beast?

Thanks,
Pat Zabinski
