Testing each and every productoin I/O port for signal integrity is an
expensive proposition. For the purposes of signal characteristics and
analog validation, a sampling test of your production run may be performed.
In the case of 1394 high speed serial bus or Firewire (a network-like bus),
the following measurements are recommended:

Signal Amplitude - Differential signal amplitude at the transmitter &
receiver
Common Mode (output) Voltage
Common Mode (input) Voltage
Common Mode (output) Noise
Signal Overshoot and Ringing
Cable Media Signal Timing Validation
Signal Rise & Fall Times
Jitter and Skew for Different Data Rates

Subject: [SI-LIST] : Production test of 10/100 ethernet conn ??

What sort of manufacturing/production tests are people
using on network (say 10/100 ethernet) I/O ports ??

I assume that just hooking it to a hub and seeing if
"it works" is not sufficient since a missing or wrong
value termination resistor in the magnetics section
might yield a working connection inspite of
terrible SI on the tx/rx pairs.
