Doug,
Engineering Circuit Analysis, 1978 McGraw Hill states:
"M.L. Thevenin French engineer working in Telegraphy first published a
statement of the theorem in 1883..."
"E.L. Norton a scientist formerly with Bell Telephone Laboratories."

Subject: [SI-LIST] : Who are Thevenin and Norton?

Even my college professor fiends haven't been able to answer this
for me!

Thevenin and Norton made significant contributions to electronics
with
their respective equivalent circuits. I have tried to find, without
success, their first (full) names and when they lived, or at least
when
they formulated their equivalent circuit ideas.

Are there any members on this list who might have a reference book
that
        would give this info?

        Thanks for any help.

        .
