Alternatives are packages by ANSOFT (http://www.ansoft.com) or Pacifix Numerix
but I think the prices may be higher than your budget.

recommendations for a low-cost (less than $5K) 2-D field solver? I used
to have a neat little package from Integrity Engineering, but Mentor
gobbled them up.
