Another spread spectrum resource you may want to check out is the online
magazine called Spread Spectrum Scene (http://www.sss-mag.com).

There is a wealth of information regarding both SS theory and practical
applications. There are a number of well described SS projects that you
perhaps may be able to leverage off of.

I think your proposed project will definitely be a challenge to pull off
to completion in a semester or two, but you will definitely learn a lot
of real interesting and practical stuff that very few if any undergrad
programs cover. In the early 80's when I was involved with commercial
spread spectrum satellite system development at Equatorial Communications
(RIP) I must say I learned more about RF design than I ever knew existed
before then. Good luck!
