FYI. we take "screen shots" all the time for Printed Circuit Design
magazine with an $80 program called Paintshop Pro 5.0 by Jasc Software
(www.jasc.com). I highly recommend it for this task since you can then
save your screen capture to a wide variety of graphics formats to suit
your needs. This Windows program has much of the functionality of
Photoshop (except that it doesn't support .EPS and other vector-based
formats). It even supports most Photoshop plug-ins for doing special
effects.

Paintshop Pro allows you to set a "hotkey" (e.g., F12) for doing
screen captures that won't interfere with the commands in whatever
program you're running. When you choose "start capture" from within
Paintshop Pro, it automatically minimizes itself and allows you to
open/run the program you want to take a shot from. Press the "hotkey"
you've set to take the screen shot you want, and Paintshop will
relaunch and display the shot you've just taken so that you can save
it to your favorite graphics format. Best of all, it "ignores" the
mouse cursor, so you don't have to worry about hiding the "arrow" or
"editing" the image to remove it later.

A great buy for the money and you can order it directly from the Jasc
Web site (or buy it from stores like MicroCenter, etc.).

I have just used the "Print Screen" button. When pressed, it puts the
screen image into the windows clipboard as a graphic. You then can insert
the graphic into Word or some other application using <CNTL>V.
