[SI-LIST] : Grounding & Shielding: Coupling Vs Radiation

I would like to get people's input on the similarities and differences in
grounding and shielding against coupled (through mutual inductance and
capacitance) fields Vs radiated fields (through antenna).

For instance, I've seen recommendations that only one end of a cable shield be
grounded when protecting against a coupled (near) field Vs grounding both ends
of the cable shield when dealing with a radiated (far) field.

What is the theoretical / physical basis. Or, is their any difference?
