ACTON, CA.

I have been involved in Amateur Radio since High School. I spent a lot of time hanging out with my best friend Bruce K6HRU, and some other "Ham" friends. However, I didn't get my own license until I got out of the Army. K6HRU gave me the Technician Exam in Feb. 1963, two years later I went to the FCC and passed the General. I just recently (July 1998) got the Advanced ticket.

My first rig was a Gonset GC105 on 2m AM. I later upgraded my VHF station to an Ameco TX-62, Hammarlund SP210 receiver (circa 1943) with a Tecraft converter on 2m and an Ameco converter on 6m. I had a 60ft tower with a 32 el. Skeleton Slot antenna. After I got the General ticket, I operated a homebrew KW with a pair of 4X150's, and an SX101A receiver, which I modified to include a product detector. Later, I purchased a new Drake T4X xmtr and R4B rcvr, which has been my HF gear ever since. My HF antenna was a Johnson Matchstick.

I was very active on 2m AM and 75m SSB through the sixties and into the seventies. Changes in careers and marriage resulted in a reduction in my "Hamming" time to only occasional activity until 1997, when I became interested again in 2m, but now it is mostly FM.

My present HF station consists of the Drake T4X / R4B, inverted V antennas on 75m and 40m. On VHF (2m) I have an ADI AR-146, Icom IC-22, and IC-T2A HT. I have recently acquired an old Ameco 2m converter, and have been listening to some 2m SSB, I am planning to build a Transmitting converter in the future so I can talk as well. ( I have built a 4el Yagi that I can switch between horizontal and vertical polarization.)

On 2m FM, I generally monitor Hauser Peak (146.73), agic (147.735), and Breckenridge (145.150). On HF, I am on the Golden Bear Net almost every evening (1900hrs 3975khz).

I am also a member of the Antelope Valley Amateur Radio Club.
