WB5KOA

Carolyn Teer, WB5KOA, was first licensed as a Technician Class Amateur Radio Operator in 1972. She is married to John, AK5Z, and they have two adult harmonics, KA7NWC and KA7LEX. Her Son-in-Law is KB5OTP. Carolyn and John's daughter Jennifer, KA7NWC, and Son-In-Law Russ (KB5OTP) have two harmonics who are also HAMS: Rebekah, KD5YKD, and Rachel, KD5YKE. Obviously, with so many HAMS in the family, they formed a family HAM club, the Teer Radio Association (TRA).

As the TRA website says, John, AK5Z, changed his callsign from K5VCG to AK5Z after starting out with KN5VCG and then upgrading to K5VCG approximately 40 years ago.  John changed his callsign of long-standing without consulting his family. When he changed the call sign in 1997, Carolyn, his family (Son - Jeff [KA7LEX]; Daughter - Jennifer [KA7NWC]; almost disowned him. (Jennifer's OM, Russ [KB5OTP] wisely remained politically neutral.)  To John's "harmonics", Dad would always be "K5VCG" because that was the only callsign they knew and heard since their earliest memories. As a nostalgic gesture, the callsign will continue to exist far into the future for the Teer family with only the Trustee changing as necessary.  The two newest members of the TRA are John's and Carolyn's granddaughters, Rebekah [KD5YKD] and Rachel [KD5YKE], who are harmonics of Jennifer and Russ. Jeff's wife, Claudia, is working on getting her license now.
