My interest in ham radio began in 1936 when my Uncle Ed let
me speak to his friends on the old 5 meter band using his completely
home brew station. Unfortunately, Uncle Ed became a silent key in 1937
before I was old enough to get my license
Uncle Ed's QSL Card
Finally, in 1963 after getting school out of the way and
with the encouragement of the XYL, I bought an old second hand Hallicrafter's
SX-25
receiver and started to listen to code practice on W1AW
and study for myNovice test. I was licensed as WN2HTW in May of 1963. I
went on the air with a 25 watt transmitter built from plans in QST and
a long wire antenna made from wire unwound from the yoke of an old discarded
tv receiver. A year later, I passed my General and was issued WB2HTW. I
currently hold an Advance class ticket.
