GREAT RIVER AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
147.240-840 REPEATER -WB0LOB
Welcome to the Great River Amateur Radio Club Repeater Committee. We
hope
you find your use of the repeater enjoyable and helpful. Monitor the repeater
to become familiar with the peculiarities in its operation. To initiate
a
contact simply indicate that you are on frequency--"This is WA9XYZ
monitoring." Identify legally according to FCC regulations. Pause
between
transmissions and listen for the courtesy tone which indicates the timer
has
been reset. Use simplex whenever possible. If you can complete your QSO
on a
direct frequency, it leaves the repeater for others to use. Use the minimum
power necessary to maintain good communications. Auto-patch is for mobile
use. When using the auto-patch, the FCC forbids anything that could be
construed as business communications.
Operation of the repeater is not difficult. Ask questions and experiment
with
the functions of the repeater to get maximum use of it. Commands are entered
via your touch tone pad. One thing to keep in mind about the basic repeater
operation is that it is not necessary to allow the carrier to drop to
reset
the timers. Timers are automatically reset after the courtesy tone sounds.
If
the carrier is allowed to drop before transmitting, you may cause undesirable
tail messages or IDs to interrupt your conversation. When entering touch
tone
commands, always enter the full sequence before unkeying.
COMMANDS:
Touch-tone test [375 + key sequence],This may require another's assistance
to get the 375 started and this does not test the"D".
Auto-patch [* + telephone number (All without dropping the carrier)local
calls only please.
Autodial [6 + autodial number (00-99)] Emergency Autodial [9 + autodial
number (0-4)] Not used at the present time.
Auto-patch Hang-up-(all) [#] Patch Timer Extender [* + 1]
If you want to mute your voice during the auto patch send (*3) after connecting.
PHONE-PATCH: You can't break the repeater with the Touch-Tone, feel free
to
play! Just be sure to ID! Once you know that your tones decode properly,
you
can make a patch. The Auto-patch command is the Auto-patch prefix followed
immediately by the phone number, all as one command. Try prefix [*] and
your
phone number. The controller will say "Auto-patch", pause then
read back the
phone number for verification, and pause again. During pause, if you click
your rig's PTT briefly, you prevent phone number read-back. You can hear
the
controller dial the tones Touch-Tones. Optional phone number read-back
and
Touch-Tone or dial pulse regeneration mean NO WRONG NUMBERS!
HINTS: To cancel a patch before it dials, enter the (#) during the 2
second
pause. Long distance is disabled; numbers beginning with 0, l or longer
than
7 digits are ignored. Numbers less than 4 digits are ignored. They must
be
dialed through either auto-dialer. When the Auto-patch Timer times out,
the
"30 seconds left" message is sent. The user may enter the Patch
Timer Extend
command. If the Activity Timer times out, a warning warble is generated,
reset the activity timer by sending [* + 1].
HANGING UP: Simply enter the Patch Hang-up command [#] to take down the
patch. The controller acknowledges with the "Autopatch complete"
message.
If patch is not up, the Hang-up command is ignored.
EXTEND PATCH TIMER: When the controller says "30 seconds left",
you may
extend the timer with the timer extend command. The timer extend command
reloads the patch timer, allowing an extension of the patch.
EXAMPLE: User sends [*1] during patch after the controller informed him
that
"30 seconds left", i.e. that the timer has almost expired. Controller
says
"Timer X" and reloads patch timer with the patch timer extend
value.
HINT: The controller waits till the mobile is listening before saying
"30
seconds left", to ensure you have an opportunity to extend the timer.
Since
the controller waits until the mobile is listening before the warning,
the
actual patch duration lay be somewhat longer than the programmed patch
timer
plus 30 seconds. The timer may be extended over and over; no warning is
given
before it times out again. The command is ignored before the "30
seconds
left" message.
AUTODIAL: Phone numbers stored in the auto-dialer may be dialed by entering
the user autodial command prefix [6] followed by the autodial number.
To call
autodial number 10, enter: [610]. The controller responds with "Speed
call to
"WA0XYZ". It will not read the number back. It will pause and
dial the number.
Wait until the second pause to verify the contents of the autodial. If
a
mistake is made entering the command, cancel it by entering the (#) before
it dials.
EXAMPLE: User Sends: [640]. If 40 = WA0XYZ but you want WA0ZYX check
your number
to make sure you have the right one or try the long method.
EMERGENCY AUTO-PATCH 911 is active. The other 5 do not have anything
stored in
them at the present time.
