WA5RMH

Hello,
I am Richard Hayden. My present QTH is El Paso, Texas, yep, way the heck out in West Texas. To get to most anywhere from my part of Texas, you need to reverse what Horace Greely said and: "Go east, young man, go east."
Well, I did it! Back in 1964 I received my novice ticket and operated as wn5rmh, then while a radioman in Uncle Sams Navy, upgraded to Gemeral and became wa5rmh. After serving my time, I returned home went to college, took a degree in Literature (like to read), minor in Radio/Television (currently known as mass communications) then went back and got an elementary teaching certificate in English.
During my early teaching years, my license expired. In 1999, a friend asked if I would help him study for his tech+ test. Well, after helping him, I figured what the heck, I'll test also.
Shortly after that I received my new license (kd5gwn). Soon, I decided that I wanted back on the bands that I had enjoyed a lot earlier, and tested for my General again. Then, after pounding out kd5gwn and accidently mixing it up with wa5rmh, I decided that I needed to regain my old call to keep myself out of Dutch with the FCC. The call was available, and I went back to being WA5RMH.
Now, after 26 years in the classroom with 8th graders (one pictured here) I find myself getting ready to embark on a different life style-leasure and transporting my wife to autograph sessions for her mystery novels.

Well, things as I knew them had changed a lot since the 1960's. I found myself undergoing many new experiences in ham radio, some of which are posted here.
