Amateur Radio Station

WA5KBH

Hi. My handle is George. As you will see from the enclosed pages, I was first licenced as a youngster in high school. Never would I have dreamed that 30+ years later would I be still interested in anything the same...much less have the chance to tell potentially the whole world how much I have enjoyed - and continue to enjoy - this great hobby.

Since I composed the main page telling generally of my history, WA5KBH,
I have added another chapter to it, which I'd like to tell you about now.

If you read the above page - WA5KBH - then you know I was raised in New Orleans and received my ham ticket there. (At that time, you had to go to the FCC Field Office at 600 South Street (if my memory serves me), New Orleans, to take the general class or higher class examinations.) There was a little bit of six meter activity in New Orleans and the Greater New Orleans Amateur Radio Club (GNOARC) held a weekly 6 meter net. I managed to scrape up enough money to purchase a used (today I guess the polite -politically correct?- term is "pre-owned") 6 meter AM transceiver. As I recall there weren't any band openings that I experienced, but I wanted to be a part of the Club activities. By the late 60's the rig was given to a friend of mine who had a technician licence and was limited to operating the VHF bands and I was more interested in chasing DX on the low bands by that time. (The 3 element beam I gave to another friend in 1990.)

Recently, I have been reading a fair amount about the activity on 6 meters. So, I once again managed to collect a few dollars to buy myself a six meter rig. I am looking forward to the challenge of working across the Americas and beyond during the band openings.

My grid location here a few miles north of Lake Charles, Louisiana is EM30.

I'll keep you posted on my progress.

73 and tnx

George
