The last (and only) time that I resorted to my sending such a written RFI notice by mail was in Jun 1969 in Austin. We had changed QTHs there a month before. That involved a window air conditioner unit - easily identified by its cycling on/off. Perhaps my letter then was "less diplomatic" (likely mentioning FCC Part 15). The first response (over the backyard fence there) was from the wife - stating that they were renters and that the unit belonged to the landlord, plus being "upset" by my "threatening" letter (as well as vague comments about my "transmitting static"). With that apparent non-cooperation I sent the Houston FCC a formal complaint on the matter. A few days later the husband engaged me in a conversation on the matter. It was short - "We'll take care of this now", punctuated by a sucker punch to my left eye. The Austin PD were called, and I went to the Bergstrom AFB ER (being a USAF dependent attending UT) to get three sutures to close the resultant wound. (Ironically, the assailant had given me unsolicited assistance in erecting my 3-el 6m beam only weeks prior.) The next day I filed a complaint with the Travis County DA Office for "simple assault". (In those archaic days that was resolved with a no-contest plea and a paltry $20 fine!) I also sought advice from the Bergstrom Legal Affairs Office about acting on any civil tort (which was never done, 2-year statute of limitations). Using public records we finally identified the property owner and gave that information to the Houston FCC. They contacted him (totally unaware of the situation), and he replaced the offending unit by that August. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My QTH: 1411 Cloverleaf, Austin, TX RFI Source: `1410 Corona, Austin, TX (directly behind, south, of me) my sequence of letters in the situation http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690608.txt http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690609.txt http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690630.txt http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690710.txt http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690724.txt http://www.qsl.net/wa5iyx/19690810.txt
