Ode to the Wahoos -'96

In the year of ninety-six,
In the Commonwealth of "V",
It was the big game of the year,
That everyone had come to see.

The Wahoos had not calmed down,
From their last miraculous win,
Against the mighty Tarheels,
Who had taken it on the chin.

The Hoos were looking for revenge,
Those gentlemen from Flagship U.,
For everybody loves the Hoos,
Governor Allen does so too.

Flagship U was led by its' Admiral,
Known as Sir George of Welsh,
Ol' George would know just what to do,
Those Hokies he would squelch.

So the Hoos came down to B'burg,
On a cold November day.
They'd give those farmers a lesson.
And make those rednecks pay.

So when the Hoos first got the ball,
Sir Tiki broke free up the middle.
And everyone knows that once he's gone,
You might as well break out the fiddle.

Tiki streaked down the field.
"He's gone!" the Hoos all said.
"We've got a touchdown in the bag"
And the Hokies cried, "We're dead!"

"A rocket can't catch Tiki!",
That's what the Hoos all say,
And it took a rocket to catch him,
A rocket named Torrian Grey.

And then the Hoo ship listed,
And Flagship U began to fold.
They could sail up and down the field,
They just couldn't cross over the goal.

But the speedy Brian Edmonds could,
Cross over the goal that is.
He ran through half the Wahoo team,
And over the rest, for his.

While the Hokies rocked'um and socked'um,
And played like Big East Champs,
The Hoos looked like those doormats,
To which they'd put the clamps.

Just ask little Timmy Sherman,
How hard a Hokie hits.
He never knew what hit him,
Before he called it quits.

As bombs rained down upon their heads,
Flagship U tilted to port,
Druck launched another missile round,
The Gov. left for the heliport.

As the sun set over the mountains,
Flagship U's faithful began to sigh,
And the Hokies shouted out with glee,
"Hey, Hey, Hey, Goo-ood-bye".

In the end it seemed preordained,
Of who would win and who would lose,
The only question unanswered is,
Do the Hokies own the Hoos?

Oh, somewhere Hoos are happy,
Somewhere Hoos are gay,
Somewhere they sing the "Good Ol' Song",
To dear ol' U.VA.

But in the year of ninety six,
The unthinkable came to pass,
And for the second year in a row,
THE HOKIES KICKED THEIR ASS!

An Old Hokie
