Ode to the Wahoos -'90

It was the football season of '93,
The Hoos started out on fire.

Their hopes soared higher and higher.

They romped and stomped through the ACC.
T'was the year that they would roll.
This was the year of Wa-hoo-Wa.
Bring on those Seminoles!

The Times-Dispatch touted the Hoos,
It was confirmed by every poll.
And everyone knew, come New Year's Day,
That the Hoos would be in a bowl.

So came the ides of November.
"Bring on those hicks" they crowed.
"We'll crush those uncouth ruffians,
From that Cow College down the road."

Game day started off cool and clear,
The Alumni all came out,
Wearing their ties of orange and blue,
It was time to cheer and shout.

The start was so exciting.
The result was in the cards.
The first receiver showed his IQ.
The ref said "15 yards".

The Hoos marched up and down the field.
But their play stunk up the joint.
It seems the Hoos could move the ball,
They just couldn't score a point.

The hilarious Pep Band had been sent
To the stands, for they'd been bad.
They sat there wearing their orange vests,
Looking forlorn and sad.

For how could the Hoos have spirit?
Could they be anything but bland?
How could they beat those clodhoppers,
Without the Beavis and Butt-head Band?

The second half was sad and trying.
The Yahoos began to wilt.
It seemed that the earth on its axis,
Had even begun to tilt.

The men from Mr. Jefferson's U,
Stood around like blocks of stones.
Maybe what they really needed,
Was a few $1,000 "student loans".

They did their little dances,
And then they began to whine.
While they were shooting off their mouths,
The Hoo's line was knocked supine.

But the Hokies kept their composure,
The Techmen played with class.
The Yahoos stumbled and fumbled,
And couldn't seem to catch a pass.

The faithful watched in horror.
To Hoos it seemed unfair,
To watch their heroes conquered,
As "Tech Triumph" filled the air.

By the end of the game it was clear to all,
That Tech wasn't going to fold.
While the Hokies now are Shreveport bound,
They've sent the Hoos to the Toilet Bowl.

Oh, somewhere Hoos are happy,
Somewhere Hoos are gay,
Somewhere they sing the "Good Ol' Song",
To dear ol' U.VA.

But throughout the Old Dominion,
A Hoo nightmare has come to pass.
There is no joy in Hooville,
'Cause, THE HOKIES KICKED THEIR ASS!
