Ode to the Wahoos 2007

The odds makers had it all even.
The pundits said “Too close to call”.
It was the Hokies and the Hoos,
In the classic of the fall.

The Hoos were cautiously optimistic,
That this would be their year.
To finally beat the hated Hokies,
So they could really stand and cheer.

For wasn’t their record at nine and two,
Hoo faithful all did cluck.
But were they the best in the ACC,
Or was it all just luck?

So they came in their little Volvos,
Their orange and blue ties askew.
Sipping wine and eating crackers and brie.
The Teasips of Mr. Jefferson’s U.

The first half was a nail biter,
The Wahoos looking for their dues.
But just before the halftime gun,
The air was knocked out of the Hoos.

For Brandon Flowers intercepted a pass,
And the Hokies shouted Hurrah!
Then Glennon drove them down the field,
And Royal gave um’ the coup-de-grace.

In the second half the boys from Flagship U,
Began to get concerned.
It seemed those dastardly Hokies,
Had speed and skill to burn.

And then it started to be obvious,
As to who was the best in the land.
It all became clear to those who watched,
The Hoo house had been built on sand.

The Hoo faithful watched in horror.
To Hoos it seemed unfair.
To watch their beloved home team loose,
As Tech Triumph filled the air.

Oh, somewhere Hoos are happy,
Somewhere Hoos are gay,
Somewhere they sing the “Good Ol’ Song”
To dear ol’ U.Va.

For in the year of double oh seven,
Again it has come to pass.
There is no joy in Hooville,
Cause THE HOKIES KICKED THEIR ASS!

An Old Hokie
