Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11

The Grumman Amateur Radio Club, WA2LQO, sponsored a special event station operation commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11. Our Club proudly recognized the incredible feat accomplished by the thousands of employees, suppliers and partners in achieving the Lunar Landing and safe return of our Astronauts in July 1969. The Lunar Module that delivered Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the lunar surface and returned them to the orbiting Command Module was the 5th LM (LM-5) produced by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, with final assembly taking place in the Bethpage, New York, Plant 5 facility. A total of 13 LM units were produced, 10 of which were flown in space, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Lunar_Module for more information. Plant 5 was also home to the Grumman Amateur Radio Club for many years following the Apollo era.

Operation Summary: Several Special Event Stations operated over the July 17, 2009 through July 24, 2009 period. Over 1440 stations were contacted; a list of stations contacting our special event station is here.

Special Event Certificate: A Special Event commemorative certificate – 8 ˝ x 11 inches, is available to all who have contacted one of the WA2LQO stations. The certificate will be mailed flat if you provide a large, self-addressed, stamped mailing envelope ($1.05 postage required for US addresses). If you provide a smaller self-addressed, stamped envelope, the certificate will be folded, and $0.61 is sufficient postage. All certificate requests should be sent to the WA2LQO Callbook address (70 Dewey Street, Huntington, NY 11743) with your SASE. If you prefer to send “green stamps”, 1 is sufficient for a folded certificate; 2 are required if you wish to have an unfolded certificate mailed flat.
