Unexpected Honors Can Inspire Us To Do More

In June, 2012, a representative of the Pueblo West Metropolitan District called to ask me to be the Grand Marshall of the annual Fourth of July Parade. I accepted, and my XYL Jane (KA0USA) and I rode in a buckboard in the parade. I also was in charge of judging the parade entries.

Sometimes surprises can happen that leave one feeling humble or even unworthy. That's what happened in May 2012 when the Pueblo West Metropolitan District Board and the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department bestowed awards on me during one of the Metro District Board meetings.

To show their appreciation for my many years of work with amateur radio, the Board presented a Proclamation proclaiming the week of the ARRL Field Day as "Bill Ewing Days" in Pueblo West.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Department presented me with a plaque with a "Certificate of Appreciation for 10 years of dedicated ARES service to the citizens of Pueblo County and the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office."

Thanks to David, KY6YYY, who presented information about me to the Pueblo West Metropolitan District and to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department and made these awards possible. I thought David was gathering information to be used at the club's annual Field Day exercise.
