4.1.08 rev. CCARC

The repeater system consists of a G7-144N 7 dB gain collinear antenna at 260 feet up the tower. The whole system is 1100 ft. above sea level with 260 ft. of continuous Andrew Heliax hardline. The 144 duplexer is Wacom, a Vertex (Yaesu commercial line) repeater with 25 watts of power and an RC 1000V controller connected to a remote 440 receiver.
The system is backed up with emergency power. The 85 repeater has been in operation for approximately 23 years and has been used in many emergency situations. We hope that this repeater can continue to provide outstanding service to our community in the finest tradition of Amateur Radio.

Our thanks go out to Bob Miller, N9RM, and his helpers.

Text Box: 6 METER REPEATER

The new home built repeater

Friday October 19, 2001 , the new antenna for the six meter machine at Cardinal Hill, Ky. was put into operation.  The repeater had been working on a triband antenna mounted on the southern leg.  This antenna proved to perform poorly for six meters.  So a new Diamond DPGH62 antenna was purchased by John Austin Sr., WD9HMH.  A tower crew, from VoiceStream Wireless, manufactured and installed a custom antenna mountto hold the new antenna on the Rohn SST tower, and mounted it on the northern leg.  Given the nature of RACES, this repeater is allowed to collocate with the Louisville Police department radios on top of Cardinal Hill.  This gives us a clean, secure, temperature controlled environment with emergency power backup.

Now for the specifications:

The new repeater is made up of two Alinco 6 meter mobiles coupled together via a CAT-200 controller.  This made big improvements to the overall operation and control of the repeater.  Power output is 20 watts.  The old Hamtronics was 16 watts.  Crossover audio was greatly improved over the old set-up.  All coax cables were replaced with 1/2 inch hard-line to improve rejection from local radio equipment.
TX frequency = 53.43 MHz
RX frequency = 52.43 MHz
Tx power input to the duplexer = 16 watts.
Duplexers are Wacom WP-604 (donated by Eddie Martin, WA4DBY)
Approx 275 feet of 7/8 inch Andrews hardline used
Antenna is Diamond DPGH-62, gain = 6 dBd (donated by John Austin Sr., WD9HMH)
This gives system's ERP = 50 watts
The site has a height above mean sea level (HAMSL) of 649 feet.  And the antenna is 200 feet up the tower.
Given the local terrain, antenna height above average terrain (HAAT) = 322 feet.
Location is: 38:08:46.00 degrees Latitude and 85:48:29.73 degrees Longitude, which is on the Louisville water company grounds by St. Andrews Church Road and Dixie Highway, nearby DOSS High School, in Louisville, Ky.
Estimated range for mobile (25 watts @ 3db gain) = 40 miles.
Estimated range for base (25 watts @ 6 db gain) = 60 miles.

This is one more in the arsenal of amateur repeaters available to any licensed amateur operator to use and not abuse.
