SUMMARY OF ACTIONS AT MARCH 99 MEETING The big news is the work
on the back
room. The Building and Grounds workers are going great guns.
Jeff N9OWP
has a firm price on the air conditioner, and was authorized to buy
it. A
related bit of news is that we are spending money at a great rate.
Our
Treasurer had to liquidate one of the certificates of deposit to keep
our
checking account in the black. We then went on to spend more
money. Frank
KF9NZ told the members present about some small changes in the repeater
programming to prevent long distance calls and such, and then told
about
some computer software available from the maker of the controller that
permits programming from a computer. This costs $60.00, and it
was approved
to buy it.
Everything is going along fine in the hamfest department (we can still
use a
hand--please see the work list) . Our ad in "WORLDRADIO" is coming
out soon.
The by-law confirming our practice of reimbursing members for the cost
of
upgrading their license was passed, and the proposed Constitutional
amendment also passed 22 to 3 with one voting "present"
It was voted to
forego a scholarship this year .
I have a request of the members. We have about 12 or 15 police
or emergency
phone numbers programmed in the computer. For example, 911* gets
the La
Salle County Sheriff, 912* gets the Illinois State Police District
17, and
then there are 10 or more numbers, 913*, 914*, etc for places like
Ottawa,
Utica, Peru, Seneca etc etc. There is a written list of these
available,
but there are a few problems. If a community changes its numbers,
such as
Marseilles will do when they go to enhanced 911, will we remember to
change
our programming?
If you have the printed list with you when you want to call, say the
Oglesby
police, why can't you just as well have the 7 digit number written
down?
What cities/towns/villages/ counties do we include, and what ones do
we not?
If you are mobile, where does each town's limits extend?
My thoughts are that this feature is used very little, and should be
eliminated. We should have La Salle County and Ill S.P., but
that's about
all. If the problem belongs to another jurisdiction, surely one
of those
two agencies will relay the information. Let me have your thoughts
on this.
Thanks to KB9PUV, Tom, for volunteering to help with the Repeater Committee.
How about one or two more of you?? Tnx de KF9NZ
