Welcome,
   From the editor

If you are an ARRL member whose membership expires in 2001 and you have never
been an SRRC member, then SRRC wants you!  To thank you for your support of
our hobby through ARRL membership, SRRC will reduce the $15 dues for new
members to $10 if you join SRRC before February 2001.  An application is
attached.

  From the President-KB9JTL

The SRRC had two fun activities this past month. The LST special event
station on December 9 and a fox hunt on December 17. Many thanks to those who
spent there time organizing the events as well as those who took time out of
their busy schedules to attend. We need more activities of this type. Let me
know if you have any activity ideas.

Winter has us in an icy grip. Keep an ear on the repeater for motorists that
may need some type of assistance. The auto-patch is out of service because of
the temporary repeater. With any luck it will be back to full feature
operation early next month. The lightning protection equipment has been
purchased. Now it's a matter of finding the time, during this busy holiday
season, to install it. Frank (KF9NZ) would welcome any help, I'm sure.

Austin Rappeport (KB9UTF) has agreed to be our new Static editor. He and Joe
(KB9EZZ) are responsible for bringing us this issue. Remember that it is
always easier to construct Static when there are submission's form other club
members. Yes, THIS MEANS YOU!

I hope everyone has a nice and safe holiday season. Hopefully everyone will
get all the Ham Radio toys on their list. Feel free to bring any newly
acquired toys to the January meeting for show and tell. A club meeting is an
excellent forum for learning from others experiences.

I regret to announce that Johnny Vasicak (W9ZEN) died on Friday December 15.
He was a long time club member and chairman of our activities committee. I'm
sure all the members will miss his vast experience. That's all for this
month. I will be looking forward to seeing everyone January 8, 7:00PM at the
first meeting of the New Year.

73 for now! This is KB9JTL and I will be listening.

SRRC December 2000 meeting (Leonore)-KF9NZ

The December meeting was presided by the Secretary KF9NZ in the absence of
both the Pres and Vice Pres. There were only 16 members present. KB9TMA
reported that everything needed to fix the antennae is on hand.  All we need
is workers!  The Alinco 2 Meter rig we had on the packet station went belly
up. We have a loaner from KB9RKU. We are looking into resurrecting the old
club GE rig for use as the packet radio. The target for the QSL contest is
KD6CVC, San Dimas Ca. It was announced the N9PIB is in the Iowa Med. Center
Hospital getting some spare parts installed. The expenditure of $200.00 for
lightning protection equipment for the repeater was approved.  All present
were reminded of the special event station to be held Saturday.

Meetings are the first Monday of the month in Leonore (next to Tabor Grain)
at 7pm. Wednesday's net is at 7 PM on 147.12.

November Equipment Chairman Report-KB9TMA

I have no new significant developments to report for this month in the
equipment report. The following is a list of developments on our "old
business" agenda for the equipment tab.  The antenna project is coming along,
slowly but surely. I have obtained the necessary parts for the Mosley TA-33M
HF beam antenna that were needed to complete construction. The parts are at
the clubhouse, along with the roll of low loss coax-cable that Frank (KF9NZ)
purchased on behalf of the club for the upcoming antenna project(s). Pat
(KC6VVT) and I will be working on erecting the new HF beam, and repairing the
old 2-meter beam, as time permits. Regretfully, the new antennas will not be
operable in time for the clubs special events station this coming weekend, so
we will have to work off of the 40-80 meter inverted "V" antenna, using the
antenna tuner with the Yaesu HF Transceiver.
At this time, it looks as if the Alinco two-meter mobile radio that was being
used for the packet station BB is kaput. It is unknown if the radio is
repairable, as there is audio but no display. Frank (KF9NZ) informed me at
the meeting last night that he may have an old kit radio that we can use to
run on the packet station. If not, we will begin searching for a low cost
alternative or replacement radio to keep the packet system up and running.
In the meantime, Kurt (KB9RKU) has temporarily loaned his Icom IC-2100 two
meter mobile radio for use on the packet station, which offers us a bit more
power for the time being.

I have a Radio Shack two-meter mobile that can be used after Kurt needs his
radio back, until we find a permanent replacement.  Also, Kurt has located
the 10-foot mast for the Ringo Ranger 2-meter vertical antenna for the packet
station, and this will be erected sometime early next year. This will allow
the packet station to utilize its very own separate two-meter antenna system!

The only other upcoming project for this spring will be repairing the
condition of the guy poles for the clubs antenna tower. Several years of wear
and tear have resulted in a bit too much leaning in at least one of the
poles, so I will propose this be taken care of as soon as the weather gets
warmer.
That's all I have to report for this month,
73's and Happy Holidays to everyone
Jesse L. Risley (KB9TMA) SRRC Equipment Chairman [kb9tma@yahoo.com]
