October  SRRC Meeting Notes

We were happy to see W9ZEN back in the fold, and Johnny reminded us about
the Illinois QSO party coming up the weekend of the 17th and 18th, as well
as the CQ World-Wide on  the 30th/31st.   We were reminded that JOTA is the
17th and 18th also.  Invite some Scouts in to help you work the Ill QSO party!

N9PLJ told us that the gentleman from Tabor Grain keeps callng him about
selling the property.  After considerable discussion, it was decided to
offer to sell the property to them - for no less then $250.000.

N9PLJ gave an interesting hamfest report.  A new sign-up sheet is being
passed around with diferent hours and jobs on it.  Next year we will have
SECURITY personnel with special badges on duty.  Vendors will be allowed
access to the buildings during hours when they are closed only through one
door, and with security people on hand.  We will also have the gate manned
through the night to colect from those early morning cheap-skates.   HOWEVER
we NEED MEMBERS TO VOLUNTEER FOR THESE JOBS!!  NOW!!!  OK?

The matter  of Insurance was brought up by Francis WB9VLW.  It was decided
to increase our insurance to replacement value at a higher figure than we
have had, and to increase our liability to $1,000,000.00.  Francis will shop
for the best price.

On Monday, the 4th, Oggy, N9JNK and I met at the Clubhouse and began to
align the repeater.   The first thing found was the UHF transmitter was 3
KHz off freq.  The transmit levels, power, frequency and deviation were all
set up correctly.  We then went to Etna Rd. and proceded to align and set
all of the various levels.  The transmitter was being over-modulated, and
the transmit PL tone was way too high.  After setting the voter levels, we
found that when signals flipped from receiver to receiver the transition was
perfect.  The problems that were found and corrected by Oggy with the
service monitor were problems that
could only be found and corrected with that type of test equipment.  The
repeater transmissions now are much cleaner and clearer.  All of the
adjustments and problems are not corrected.  The big one is adjustment of
the voter so that it selects the best signal.

The power amplifier is another story.  I have decided to leave it as is -
putting out about 25 watts - for the time being.  If anyone out there has a
2 meter brick - that we can borrow for a few weeks, I will install it
temporarily and ship the Midland PA for repair right away.
