Club Meeting
We won’t be having a General AARC meeting this month, but I would like to remind everyone to try and check into the Monday night net with Jack WA9FVP at 9:00 PM.

The antenna installation is almost complete for the Emergency Response Center in building 201. This will enable the AARC to augment the Argonne emergency communications with local Amateur radio emergency organizations.

Amateur Radio News Line
by Jack, WA9FVP
Now that I’m net control for the Monday Night Net, I made several improvements. The Amateur Radio News Line is transmitted using a direct connection from my computers sound card to my Icom IC-746. During the transmission the repeater’s 3 minute timer is disabled allowing the recording to be played in its entirety. There is a 10 minute break for station identification. The logging of “check ins” is done using a Microsoft Excel spread sheet and from time to time, there is a “Tech Talk” session.

To guarantee that I have the latest update, I normally download News Line an hour before the net starts and play the recording through my computer. What you don’t hear is a 3 minute announcement, before the actual report begins, from the News Line treasurer asking for donations. Donations to News Line come from private individuals and clubs that transmit the bulletins during their local 2 meter nets. I’m not sure if the Argonne Amateur Radio club ever made a donation to News Line but I can say that there was a donation of $100 that was recently made by a private individual for the club.

I updated the AARC Membership application form to include our new P.O. Box number and I added a line so that members can donate money to News Line. When the new application forms are sent, I hope that this will encourage every one to fill in the blank and donate at least one dollar to News line. Even if you listen to News Line on another net you can a donation using the AARC form. The money will be sent directly to them and will not come out of the general fund. News Line, in turn, will mention our club in one of the bulletins. The new membership form will be uploaded to the club’s web page in PDF format as well as .doc format.
