Club meeting
Beginning Tuesday, March 2, the Argonne Amateur Radio Club will hold monthly lunch meetings on the first Tuesday of each month, 12:00 noon - 1:00 PM, in a private dining room at the Argonne Cafeteria, building 213. All club members are encouraged to attend. These meetings will provide an opportunity for AARC members to get to know one another. Club business will be conducted at these meetings and there will be short presentations on a variety of amateur radio subjects. Suggestions for speakers are welcome. Those who attend can purchase lunch at the Cafeteria or bring a brown-bag lunch, if desired. Club members who do not have an Argonne badge can gain access to the site for these meetings by calling or emailing Jim Jorgensen (phone/voice mail: 252-5513; email: JJorgensen@anl.gov), who will arrange clearance at the Argonne Visitors Reception Center. A meeting reminder will be emailed to all club members for whom we have email addresses. Please join us at our first meeting of 2004. Let’s get to know each other.

Argonne Amateur Radio Club Board Meeting
by Joe Kilar, February 17, 2004
Attendees: Dale Travis, Chuck Doose, Jim Jorgensen, Dick Konecny, Loren Thompson, Torben Lauritsen, Joe Kilar.

Since the officers’ terms have all expired, we unanimously decided to have Jim lead the meeting.

Jim led a discussion on the current status of the club. There were no elections for 2004 officers, all officer positions were vacant. Regular meetings and board meetings have been sporadic and the club newsletter was sporadic too and had not been issued in several months.

Jim suggested that we schedule monthly meetings on a set, publicized schedule for the year that members could depend on. We decided to use the first Tuesday of the month as had been traditional. We decided to go with a slimmed down newsletter. Dale was willing to compile this smaller version of the newsletter if others feed him the text via emails. We also decided to set up a table occasionally in the cafeteria at lunch to publicize the club and recruit new members.

We agreed that the core of the club must be among Argonne employees though involvement and participation by others outside Argonne is desired and encouraged.

We decided upon the following interim roles:
Jim Jorgensen - President
Chuck Doose - Vice-President
Loren Thompson - Secretary
Dale Travis - Treasurer
Dick Konecny - Repeater Chairman and Director
Torben Lauritsen - Director?
Joe Kilar - receive incoming club mail and distribute, send newsletters for internal distribution.

That leaves two or three (depending on Torben) director positions temporarily vacant. We decided on the following action items:
