The club provides the main course, usually roast beef and ham and the members are requested to bring a covered dish. Also please bring you own tableware. Hope to see you there!
ARRL 10M Contest
Many club members participated in the annual ARRL 10M contest.
The group completed over 235 contact in 43 different states and 38 different
counties. Even the amplifier got a dusting off in the event.
It was nice to see the club equipment being utilized, not to mention the
fellowship of the members and guest. The contest was not all work.
Bob Cerreto WA1FXT made a very large pot of pasta and sauce to feed this hungry crowd on Saturday. No one reported going to the hospital so I guess the food was OK.
The ARRL 10M contest for next year is scheduled for December 9th and
10th 2000. Maybe we will do this again. With the sun
spots up it will prove to be as exciting as this year. Any one interested
in the ARRL International DX Phone contest on March 4th and 5th?
Hunting Season Closed
Saturday October 30th, we held our annual fall fox hunt. Jim
KB8HRX was the fox this time. We had 6 teams hunting and all having
a good time. Gary WW8H, found the fox and will be our hunt master
in April during the time change weekend. This year the time change
weekend is on April 1st and 2nd. Actual day and time of the
hunt will follow when Gary has a chance to check his schedule.
42nd Jamboree-on-the-Air
October 16-17, 1999 was the 42nd Jamboree-on the-Air. JOTA,
as it is commonly referred to, is held every year and allows both Boy Scouts
and Girls Scouts to talk to each other via amateur radio. Jim Weit
KI8BV volunteered to head up this activity and host it at his home.
The event was set up Field Day style. Also Jim allowed the visiting scouts to view his own shack. Jim’s wife gave a nice talk on amateur radio and showed a video tape on amateur radio to the scouts. This gave the scouts a good understanding of amateur radio before they went to the radio to contact other scouts.
W8LBZ and the Internet
The club now has an internet account. The computer at the club
can now access the internet via cros.net. With this new venture we
have changed our email address from [email protected] to [email protected].
Also Doug Ritter KB8RQH has volunteered
to help with the web page and make the necessary updates. So if
you want something added to the web page drop him a note and he will make
the change..
Lighthouse Weekend
The club participated in the International Lighthouse / Lightship weekend
on Aug 21st and 22nd. Thanks to Denny KC8HAB we were able to
gain permission to operate portable from the South Bass Island Light house
grounds.
Every one had a great time and most are planning on revisiting next year.
Hope to see you then!
US Islands on the Air
The club operated portable from Middle Bass island on September 25th
and 26th. This operation allows island hunters to contact islands
in the US.
This years choice of Middle Bass was an island that has never been activated. W8LBZ will go in the log books as the first station to work the US Islands on the Air program from Middle Bass Island.
Once again for those who were unable to participated you missed an excellent
time. But don’t worry plans are already in the works for an event
on North Bass or Gibraltar Island next year. Will we see you then?
