![]() The Midland Amateur Radio Club is pleased to announce that the date and location for the 36th Annual Midland Hamfest and Computer Show has been set. The Hamfest will take place on Saturday, June 19th, 2010, which is the weekend prior to Field Day. We'll be returning to the Midland Salvation Army building, 330 Waldo St, in Midland. After our "shakedown" last year, we'll be instituting a few changes that should make things flow a bit smoother. As part of this, we're proud to announce we've secured an outstanding technical seminar as the cornerstone of our presentations. Bill Hays, AE4QL, will present a talk entitled "Standing Up for Standing Waves." If you're confused about SWR, reflected power, or matching an antenna to a feed line, you won't want to miss this demonstration. You will actually get to see a standing wave on a transmission line, literally brought to light by some clever techniques originally developed by Dave Smith, W8YZ. You will get to see firsthand the effect of dielectrics on the velocity factor of a transmission line and what happens to the standing wave as you change the impedance at the end of the transmission line and much more. Vendor set-up will at 6:30 a.m., with the show running from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Tables will be $5.00 each, same as last year. And of course, there will be an area for trunk sales. There will be a VE session offering test for all levels of Amateur Radio licenses. Registration begins when the doors open at 8:00 am, and testing will begin promptly at 8:30 am.
