Field Day Operations

The 2007 was the first Field Day event that the GCRC participated in quite some time and we sure had fun!!!!
We put together a planning committee and had an online Field Day Organizer thanks to John Huggins (KX4O)and the help of Jeff Pender (K8KZB) for providing the sql front end and modifications to the original coding to suit the club's needs.   We used the N3FJP Field Day Logging Program with the network logging feature and it worked out very well.   We had over 25 club members, family and friends join us over the weekend for food and fun.   See our Soapbox on the ARRL.

The 2008 Field Day was held at the same location as last year.   Field Day Committee was led by Bruce (WB6NST) and Jeff (K8KZB).   Once again we had a fine turn-out of family and friends who joined us for a great time over the weekend.   This year we earned extra bonus points for VIP visitors.   We used the N3FJP Field Day Logging Program again this year with good results.   Since we spread out the operation tents a little farther this year, the wireless network didn't work as hoped.   Thanks to Jeff's efforts, we merged the logs for online submission of the club logs.   Our operation produced higher scores this year and even included digital QSO's.   See our Soapbox on the ARRL.

The 2009 Field Day is already hot topic of discussion for the club.   Plans are under way to move Field Day operations to the Davison High School.   Our goal is to attract new membership and encourage youthful operators to experience amateur radio.   We will be joining forces with SATERN and other disaster relief organizations to promote Amateur Radio to the community.   You don't have to be a licensed operator to participate in the fun and excitement of Field Day, so we encourage anyone to join the fun of planning with us.   If you'd like to be a part of planning this event, stop by a club meeting or send W8ACW an email.

Michigan QSO Party

The 2007 Michigan QSO Party was operated by Jeff (K8KZB) and Amy (WA8MY) under Club Call W8ACW.   They operated for a total of 8 hours during the event with 348 Qso's and scored a total of25,404 points and placed 4th in the multi-operator Single-Transmitter Category.

The 2008 Michigan QSO Party was held on Saturday, April 19th.   This year the club took 3rd place in the Multi-Operator / Single Transmitter Category and as a result we will get a certificate from the MIQP!  The club also received recognition for N8MME's participation as a Single Op in the contest.
