Welcome to my humble offering to the web. My name is Jim, and you can guess my day job. This site is dedicated to my off-duty hours and hobbies.
History:
I have been interested in ham radio since childhood; since my father was first licensed in 1954, I grew up around it. However, I didn't get my first license until about 10 years ago at age 26. My first call was KC7GLT, and since I was only a Technician class, almost all of my operating was on 144/440 mHz. I didn't have the money to get any HF gear, and to my dad's disappointment, I lost interest with my limited privileges. After the license restructuring, my interest renewed, and I began studying for my General. Unfortunately, I didn't get it until after my dad died. In his honor, I obtained his first call (W7VSS) through the vanity system. Through the generosity of my mother, I inherited much of his equipment, and I am now active on HF. Over the next year, I plan to upgrade to Extra and obtain my father's last call, W7RH, and carry on the tradition.
I can currently operate from 160m through 6m any mode, and 144/220/440 mHz. FM. I am mostly active on SSB, 80 and 40 meters, with occasional DX hunting on 20, 17, and 15. I also run Echolink.
