SailPlan is a program that helps ARA Radio Officers prepare sail plans for submission to the computerized Navy vessel reporting system. SailPlan runs on Microsoft 32-bit Windows operating systems, for example, Win98, WinMe, Win2k and WinXP.

SailPlan allows the REO to enter way point information, departure and arrival port data and ship operating parameters. Then, SailPlan will then compute:
  • Way point check-sums
  • Arrival time at each way point
  • Leg Speed
  • Fuel ROB
  • Course True
  • Leg Distance
  • Leg duration in days
SailPlan displays this data in a familiar 'spreadsheet' style and can print reports formatted for either direct transmission to the Navy MOVREP system or in a more general report format more suited to use by the ships deck and engine officers.

Here is how SailPlan looks:

Note that the first four fields are required in your COMSCINST 3123 messages and are already in military format, complete with checksum. Also, displayed on the status bar is the departure time and port, the arrival DTG and port and the trip distance in nautical miles.

SailPlan is a modest tool, specifically designed as an aid to accurate reporting. I offer it free to all ARA RO/REOs.

For those of you with technical curiosity, I wrote SailPlan in C++ using the Microsoft ATL/WTL framework. The application is compiled with Visual Studio.NET.
