It takes about 3 hours to drive west-east on the
Interstate Hwy. to cross  Elko County and about
2.5  hours to drive south-north.  The population
of Elko County is less than 50,000. The town of
Elko is around 20,000 folks.

  1872 on   land  deeded  to  Charles Crocker  of
  the   Central   Pacific   Railroad.  The  original
  transcontinental   railroad   passed   through
  town  just to the left in the photo.and in the
  1890's  the   Western  Pacific  Railroad   came
  through 1  block  to  the right. This photo was

This used to be U.S. Hwy. 40, the main road

Sherman  Station,  home  of  the   Chamber  of
Commerce.  This  old  log  ranch house  and out
buildings were given to the Chamber. The entire
kit  and  kaboodle was  trussed  up,  loaded  on
one huge truck  and moved  to this site in town
then completely renovated.
