CITY / COUNTY RACES DRILL OCTOBER 1, 2011 On Saturday, October 1, 2011 Orange County RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) conducted a City/County RACES Drill from 0900 till 1100. The purpose of this drill was to communicate fromThe Laguna Woods City Hall Emergency Operating Center (EOC) to surrounding cities EOC's as well as the Orange County EOC. There were 3 parts to the exercise:
The scenerio for this exercise was that several large natural gas transmission lines had exploded simultaniously at 0900 on Saturday October 1, 2011. The cause of the explosions was unknown but the results of the explosions have resulted in widespread fires fanned by Santa Ana winds. City hall was manned by Ernie W6ETS, Jim K6EEE, Frank KI6DPU, Joe KB0IG, and Leslie Keane, City Manager and RACES Co-ordinator. All the radio operators present had a chance to man the control point and to send and receive messages. 8 Voice Mesages Were Sent 4 Voice Messages Were Received 1 Internet E-Mails Were Sent 1 Simplex Message Was Received And Passed On 1 Winlink E-Mails Were Received And 5 Messages Were Sent Winlink is An E-Mail System Using Radio (see Announcement page) City / County pictures for both the May and October 2011 drills are on the picture page. |

DISASTER PRACTICE DRILL On Tuesday 8/16/2011 The Laguna Woods Amateur Radio Club conducted a practice communication drill in The Village. The drill helps the club to be properly prepared to provide communication backup for The Villages Disaster Preparedness Task Force and Security. twelve (12) members participated and were dispatched to ten (10) different sites throught The Village. Art K7TX, Don K6IAA, Ernie W6ETS, Frank KI6DPU, Gabi KG6YWU, Hans N6LOM, Jack KF6SGT, Jim K6EEE, Larry K6LDH, Lou K6BJO, Mike KA6VPG and Muriel K6BJP participated in the drill. Jim K6EEE coordinated the drill and acted as net control. |
