The Laguna Woods Amateur Radio Club has been in operation over 30 years and it's membership is composed of residents who live in the retirement community of Laguna Woods Village and are licensed amateurs. At present we have 35 members.
The LWARC radio station, W6LY, is located in Laguna Woods Village Clubhouse One. Our HF band radios are a Kenwood TS 450S and an Icom 718. The HF antennas are a Hy Gain four element three band beam up 50 feet on a tower and a Carolina Windom. We have equipment to work the 2 meter, 6 meter, 220 MHz, 440 MHZ and 1.2 GHz bands. We also are able to work various digital modes.
We are involved in providing emergency communications for The Village's Emergency Preparedness Program. We are a sanctioned Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) for The City Of Laguna Woods.
All of our equipment can be operated either with commercial or emergency power.
