Ø    ARES consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.

Ø    Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

Ø    Only licensed amateurs are eligible for membership

Ø    Every licensed amateur is eligible for membership in ARES, regardless of membership in the ARRL.

Ø    Only ARRL members with ARES experience may be designated as an Official Emergency Station (OES).  This involves a deeper commitment to ARES than the “rank-and-file” ARES member.

Ø    Emergency Coordinator (EC) -- In Chaves County the same as the DEC
