This is me and Pauline KD5NOX working a 15 meter pile-up in the last minutes of Field Day 2001 for the Atchafalaya Amateur DX Association which I proudly served as President for 2001 and now 2002.
Well lets see, I'm 27 years
old and I am from Morgan City, La. I have been licensed since March
10, 1997. I was originally KC5ZIM
but I decided to go vanity and trade the KC in for a W and now I'm W5ZIM.
I have now ended my college career and have obtained my Bachelors of Science
Degree in Electrical Engineering. The focus of my studies have been
in the areas of Control Systems and Communications.
This was the end of a long road that ran through two universities: Nicholl's State University and Louisiana State University. I owe a lot to quite a few people at each university. They are times that I'll always treasure. |
Now comes the hard part, finding a job. I'm currently taking a little time off and enjoying having NO homework and NO projects due. That's a nice feeling. Since I passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam back in October 2002, I'm currently pursuing a position where I can work under a Professional Engineer so I can one day get my license. If nothing comes by January, I'll see about grad school.
I proudly am the President of the Atchafalaya Amateur DX Association Inc. I have served as Secretary/Treasurer for the past four years but in 2000, decided I needed a change and everyone was gracious enough to elect me Pres. We first received our callsign in 1998 as KD5DXG but we went vanity for something more appropriate and chose WA5MC. (Fondly called Whiskey Alpha Five Mad Cow for Field Day 2001) I was happy to help the club receive their non profit status in February of 2001 and now currently working on other projects and plans we've been having in the works for year.
As for other clubs, I do belong to the Thibodaux Amateur Radio Club but with being in Baton Rouge now, I'm not exactly an active member. I was asked to help reincarnate the LSU Amateur Radio Club but soon discovered it was the Meagan Amateur Radio Club instead of LSU and I realized she didn't know what she was doing so I got out before anything got started.
As for other clubs, I've just joined the LSU Chapter of IEEE, the organization for Electrical and Electronic Engineers. I was honored when I was nominated to be treasurer for the 2002-2003 year. I truly hope I'm elected and look forward to working with everyone.
As for my personal life, not really involved with anyone seriously right now. With just finishing the move to Baton Rouge, haven't had the time to pursue a relationship of anykind. I'm just trying to get things done that I've been meaning to for a while and don't really have the time.
My hobbies outside of Ham Radio are kind of limited right now. With all the time I devote to school and work, hardly find time to sleep and eat sometimes. When I do get the chance though, I have a deep passion for computers. A friend of mine and I are probably going to build a computer when we move to Baton Rouge. I like just about all sports so anything to get me actually outside and out from behind a book is always refreshing. Actually, anything that requires any type of competition is great.
I used to work for the Energy Audit Program for Nicholls State University's Engineering Department. I had to resign due to the move and now Nick and I are currently trying to get the same program reinstated at LSU now. Would be happy to get that program off the ground just like we did at Nicholls.
