Hams answer the call - Amateur radio operators in East Texas and from elsewhere in Texas and the nation were quick to respond to the call for communications assistance. The dense canopy of the East Texas forest made the use of traditional cell phones and satellite phones useless. Plus, the inter-agency communications gap once again reared its ugly head and Hams came to the rescue. (see "Shuttle Recovery")

Letter from the President by Mark Dempsky, N5MD - I keep getting signs that I'm not properly prepared. When I can across a car accident last month, I realized I should have a first-aid kit in my car. When I saw bulletins about the Hams helping out with the Challenger disaster in Hacogdoches, I realize I don't have the equipment I should have to help in a communications disaster. When the word came out that we should have three days worth of supplies in our houses, again I found I wasn't properly prepared. (see "President")
Another update of HOWIH (Heard, Overheard, Wish I'd Heard) by KR1ZAN is here (see "HOWIH") as are minutes of recent GMM/BOD meetings. (see "Minutes").
Articles by "The Old Man" - [Say, fellows, here's the old man again. This time he's all excited and boiling over. In fact he's so wild about some "Rotten" subject that he has fallen back to some queer dialect and shots about "wouff hong's", "rettsnitches", and some disorder known to the trade as "ugerumf". What do all these mean? Better read the article and see. --Editor.] [from the January 1917 QST] (See "The Old Man")
