The Fort Worth
Radio Club was formed in 1921 by a group of local hams to promote
advancement and knowledge of Amateur Radio and to provide public
service during emergencies and other events. In 1951 the club's
name was changed to The Kilocycle Club of Fort Worth and today
there are approximately 100 members. The club is open to anyone
with an interest in any aspect of Amateur Radio and we still pursue
the same goals laid down 78 years ago by our founders.
The KC Club, as it is commonly known as, has many all-ham families
and we have several family-oriented get-togethers throughout the
year in addition to our regular monthly meetings.
One of the highlights of the year is our annual ice-cream supper.
The main theme of our club is public service, with the majority
of our members also being members of Tarrant County RACES. The
KC Club provides communications for several annual events such
as the March Of Dimes walks, the Alzheimers Association walk,
the Cowtown Marathon, the Cowtown Classic Bicycle Ride, the M.S.
society, and others.
The KC Club also sponsors Amateur Radio classes and ARRL and W5YI
test sessions jointly with the Lockheed-Martin ARC on the second and fourth
Thursdays of the month at 7pm. These test sessions are at the Lockheed Recreational Facility on Bryant Irving Rd
just north of Southwest Blvd. Go in the gate, tell the guard that you are there for the radio club. Once you pass the guard
shack, turn left and you will see the tower and a brick building between the tennis court and the swimming pool.
The club operates a repeater on 146.840, callsign W5SH.
Club meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the City of Ft Worth Police/Fire Training Facility. To get there, take Henderson Street north out from the downtown area. Cross the Trinity River. At the first red light past the Trinity River, turn right and follow the street until it dead-ends at the facility.
