With the discovery of the numerous amateur radio operators in the Olive Branch area, in conjunction with the delivery of an NTS message, it was decided that an initial meeting would be established and if there was enough interest a club would be formed. Through the efforts of Melvin Jerkins, W4STI, all known amateurs in the Olive Branch area were contacted and invited to attend the initial meeting at the Maxwell Community Center on Highway 305.
On December 16, 1998 with 12 in attendance the initial meeting was held and it was unanimously decided that Olive Branch amateurs did indeed want a club. With that being done we were 27 members strong as of the end of December 2002 and we are an ARRL affiliated club. OBARC is a charter member of the Dixiefest commitee. OBARC also sponsers an ARRL accredited Volunteer Examiner Team and a school club at SBEC in Southaven, MS.
