We have listed below the Armadillo Gang members who are now silent keys and no longer with us.  We are grateful for the contributions that these fellow "hams" made to amateur radio, Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend, and the club.  They will always be missed and remembered.

R.O."DOC*' BEST- W50KF was a retired dentist. He was very active in ham radio and the ARRL. He started out as an assistant for the local area and worked his way up the ranks in the ARRL. He was our voice at the League for many years. He was the only honorary member of the Armadillo Gang.

images/key.gif (400 bytes) GRADY LEWIS- W5QLD was retired as Fire Chief of NAS. He was a DX chaser, a county hunter(worked all counties in the US two times around), started The Grinning Armadillo 10-X chapter of 10-10international. He was 1CL in the 10-10 unit and a founding charter member of the Armadillo Gang.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) LARRY CHUTE- WB5UJN was a retired Commander as a Navy pilot and from self employment. Larry chased DX and worked a lot of the nets. He helped a lot of locals upgrade by teaching them CW on the air. He was 22cl in The Grinning Armadillo 10-10 unit and a founding charter member of the Armadillo Gang.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) JERRY LEFFINGWELL- K5UDU was retired from Scott Electric as an electrical foreman at a local refinery. He helped put the first 2 meter repeater on the air in the city. He and his first wife were net control for the Buccaneer Days night parade. He was a founding charter member of STARC, 33CL in the Grinning Armadillo 10-10 unit, a founding charter member of the Armadillo Gang, a district director of ARES and was an officer in many of the radio clubs.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) IRENE LEFFINGWELL- WA5SRX was the first wife of K5UDU. She was the monitoring station and the control operator of our first repeater. She assisted Jerry as net control at the parade and was a charter member of STARC and the Armadillo Gang.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) TOM Mc NEILL- KA5THM was retired from the training department at CITGO. He was a county hunter, chased paper on 10-10, chased some DX. He was 3CL in the 10-10 and Grinning Armadillos and active in some of the radio clubs.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) ED SPRINGER- KA50RL was a retired Airforce pilot and as assistant principal for the Flour Bluff High School. He was a county hunter, 2CL in the 10-10 Grinning Armadillos and active in many of the radio clubs.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) BILL BOLEN-WD5DOK was retired as a chemical worker and the Kingsville Police Department. He worked a lot of the nets but mostly on the handicapped net. He was 13CL in the 10-10 Grinning Armadillos and belonged to several of the radio clubs.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) LEE GIVENS- N5IUS was retired from the Airforce and The Boy Scouts of America. He was very active on 10 meters and chased a lot of paper on 10-10 nets. He was a county hunter and a Grinning Armadillo.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) WALTER CAMP WD5HJY was retired from the Army and worked for the Army at NAS at the time of his death. His only activity on ham radio was hidden transmitters and field day. He was a founding charter member of the Armadillo Gang.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) HARVEY BOATMAN N5BLH was retired from the Army at NAS. He was 9CL in the 10-10- unit of the Grinning Armadillos and chased paper on the 10-10 nets. he was a county hunter and liked to look for hidden transmitters.
images/key.gif (400 bytes) O. H. McMahon, N5JEF, was an avid collector of Collins equipment, was a motorcycle rider and would take trips with 2/440-meters on his bike. He was a member of STARC and ARRL.
