HOW TO FREQUENCY CALIBRATE YOUR HF TRANSCEIVER
By: W5FJS
This is a generalized method to calibrate your transceiver before checking into a SSTV QSO.
Even though most SSTV programs have AFC, it is important to be on frequency when sending
and receiving SSTV. If you are off frequency, as many are these days, it can cause numerous
problems, so here are a few hints to get you on frequency.
1) Tune in WWV, 10 Mhz. is usually the strongest.
2) Use upper or lower SSB.
3) If possible, turn off your AGC.
4) If possible open up your I.F. filters as wide as possible.
* 5) Turn on your RIT/XIT.
6) Tune RIT/XIT for a zero beat.
7) Turn off the RIT/XIT, go to your SSTV frequency, then turn on the RIT/XIT.
8) You are on frequency.
* If you have access to your transceivers master clock trimmer, trim it instead.
