Charro was chartered in 1975. There was a ten page Constitution and by-law document adopted on May 10, 1975 by the charter members. The original Constitution is over thirty years old and still in effect today. In 1983 CHARRO began holding Special Events in addition to Field Day activities. The Special Events began as barbeques on Boca Chica Beach and have evolved into yearly events held in May on or near Palmetto Hill, the site of the "Last Battle of the Civil War" and the "Return of the Snowbird Event held in November. The Snowbird event is often held on South Padre Island at the Coast Guard Station.

A CHARRO Is a traditional cowboy of Mexico.

The traditional charro is known for colorful clothing and  participating in charreadas, a type of Rodeo.   The charreada is the National Sport in Mexico. There are more charros in the state of Jalisco than any other state in Mexico. Jalisco has also won more national championships than any other state.

The Charro Days Fiesta of 2004 in Brownsville, Texas, was designated by The American Bus Association as one of the Top 100 Events in North America, it is the oldest fiesta in the Rio Grande Valley. The history of Charro Days dates back to 1937 when a group of businessmen conceived the idea of a celebration to make Brownsville more attractive during those lean, post-Depression days. “When it caught on, it was the biggest celebration in the Valley,” said the late Bruce Aiken, a lifelong Brownsville educator and the city’s designated historian. “They were sending floats and schools all the way from San Antonio, Austin, and Corpus Christi. People got into the spirit of the fiesta, and it just took off.”  For more information: CHARRO Days and Sombrero Festival
