W5CRC is on the air during Field day, and twice during the year for special events.  These activities help the club practice setting up emergency communication sites, as would be the case after a hurricane. CHARRO ARC members are prepared for Hurricane Season and have the supplies necessary to remain active, providing emergency communication after a hurricane without Government assistance . CHARRO ARC also assists the National Weather Service office and the Brownsville Police Department handle emergency radio communication during hurricane season.  The Brownsville NWS office has an HF communications system set up and ready to go in case of an emergency.
