W5AFD Amateur Radio

My name is Albert Dupont Jr. and I have been a ham radio operator since 1991. My first callsign was KB5RPJ and I later changed to the vanity callsign W5AFD.  I currently hold a general class license.

I am originally from Houma, Louisiana which is about 60 miles southwest of New Orleans. My main interests in ham radio are radios from the 1950's through the 1970's. Basically, radios that "Glow in the Dark."

For my “day job,” I am the Facilitator of Advanced TV Broadcasting at the Satellite Center.  The Satellite Center is a satellite facility of Hahnville and Destrehan High Schools in St. Charles Parish.  We are a part of the St. Charles Parish Public School System.

My favorite part of the broadcasting and film industry in probably editing, and coming in a close second, videography.  My favorite software is Avid Media Composer and I am a certified instructor in MC Version 7.

My background is in broadcast journalism.  I was in that industry for 17 years until becoming a teacher in August of 2005.  I worked at KATC, WAFB and my last broadcasting job was at WVUE.
