Chattanooga Fun

My hometown takes great pride in being known as the "Scenic City of the South." Chattanooga offers a great many of things to see and do. From the scenic views on top of Lookout Mountain to the spectacular glimpse of large freshwater and saltwater aquatic life at the Tennessee Aquarium, Chattanooga has it all! Chattanooga also sits in a location that feels the effects of all four seasons. The autumn is my favorite time of the year with a colorful display of foliage. There are many things to do within a short drive of the city. Fishing in our numerous rivers, lakes, and streams; hunting the many woods that surround the area; hiking the trails through the mountains; riding the rapids of the mountain rivers; and golfing the huge selection of area fairways are just to name a few of the many activities to do!

Favorite Outdoor Activities

The Ocoee River was home of the 1996 White Water Olympic games. The Ocoee River is only about 45 minutes to east of town. The river is rated Class 4 and a thrilling ride through the rapids by hundreds of people takes place every summer afternoon and evening. The Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park offers several trails to hike in the area. Also, commercial land owned by area industry was set aside just for hiking. The Bowater land at the head of the Chickamauga Creek is a personal favorite of mine. The Chickamauga and Nick-A-Jack Lakes provide many good fishing holes and places to put your boat in the water.

Ham Radio Contesting

The mountain tops in the area provide a perfect place for antennas on VHF and UHF ham radio frequencies. Under normal conditions, coverage into 4 states with about a 120 mile range can be achieved just from the top of Lookout Mountain! The ARRL June & September VHF/UHF QSO Party contests are my favorite. I enjoy heading to the mountains and setting up antennas, radios, and other equipment for the various contests. You may hear me on the bands calling, "CQ Contest," someday.
